If your business uses T12 lighting, you won’t be able to buy the electromagnetic ballasts after June 30. EPACT 2005 goes fully into effect making it illegal to manufacture or import T12 ballasts beginning July 1 2010.
That’s the bad news.
On the bright side, the T12 ban presents an opportunity to save energy and, in turn, to save money. Depending on the lighting system, your T12s can be modified with newer T8 ballasts. Or, you can replace the entire T12 fixtures with T8 or T5 lighting systems.
Newer lighting, such as the T8 and T5s, can cut energy bills by as much as 48 percent. The T8 and T5 lighting also tend to be quieter than the predecessor T12 lights, while at the same time costing a similar price.
Ever better news: Idaho Power offers rebates for updating the inefficient T12 lighting. Don’t worry about the paperwork. We at Bright Ideas Lighting will make sure your lighting projects qualify for the rebates. And we’ll fill out the rebate forms for you. Many times the Idaho Power rebates pay 50% or more of the total project costs.
